What are Diabetes and Prediabetes?

Diabetes is the condition in which the body does not properly process the food we eat, and turn it into glucose, or sugar, for our bodies to use for energy.

When you have diabetes, your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin efficiently. This causes sugars to build up in your blood.

Prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be identified as diabetes.

How Do We Accurately Test?

Our test measures both hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and glucose in order to provide a comprehensive view into your potential prediabetes or diabetes condition.

Measuring HbA1c provides information about your average sugar over the past 2-3 months, while measuring glucose provides information about your sugar levels at time of testing.

We also screen for the haptoglobin genotype to help validate a predisposed risk for cardiovascular disease.
