Who can order an imaware™ test?
This test is only for adults aged 18 and older. Unfortunately, this test is not available in the state of New York due to state regulations.
Why should I be routinely tested for prediabetes?
Proactively discovering you are prediabetic can give you an opportunity to make healthy lifestyle changes to help you avoid type 2 diabetes and its more severe life-changing symptoms. Read more about how to reverse prediabetes.
What’s the difference between prediabetes and diabetes?
Prediabetes is characterized by elevated blood sugar metrics like Hemoglobin A1c and fasting plasma glucose levels. Those with prediabetes will have higher levels than normal, but not high enough to indicate a diagnosis of diabetes. Most people who get diagnosed with type 2 diabetes were initially prediabetic, possibly for years, without ever knowing it. Read more about prediabetes.
What will my results tell me?
This test measures both hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and glucose levels over the last 2-3 months to help identify your likelihood of having or developing type 1 or type 2 diabetes. If this is your first test and you find that your glucose and hbA1c levels are unusually high, you can use your results report to engage with a medical professional.
Who should take this test?
There are a multitude of risk factors for diabetes, so this test is ideal for those who:
- Do little to no exercise
- Have a high sugar/red meat and low whole grain/vegetable diet
- Have poor sleeping habits (less than 8 hours a day)
- Are 45+
- Are of Latino, Indigenous, Black, or Pacific Islander heritage
- Are already showing signs of elevated cholesterol and triglycerides
- Are exhibiting signs of insulin resistance and abnormal blood sugar readings
- Are experiencing excessive thirst or urination
This test is also ideal for those who are currently prediabetic and need to monitor their HbA1c and glucose levels to gain visibility on reversing prediabetes. Read more about how to reverse prediabetes.
Can my doctor use imaware™ results?
Yes. All of our tests are performed by CLIA-certified labs, the gold standard in lab testing quality regulation. Within your results report you will also find detailed information intended for your healthcare professional. They can use this information to interpret your test results clearly. To see an example of this, you can request a sample report at the top of this page.
How should I prepare for this test?
This test requires you to fast (no liquids or food items) for 8 hours before testing. Take the test first thing in the morning to reduce the effects of fasting and return your sample via delivery carrier on the same day.
Are imaware™ results as accurate as a lab-based test?
Yes. Not only are your results as accurate as traditional lab tests, but we’re actually the first at-home small volume blood testing company to have our data and methods peer-reviewed by the scientific and medical community — which helps validate our claims and our results reports. Read more about our peer review and scientific validation.
How do I receive my test results?
You’ll receive an email from us within 7 days of your sample return. The email will contain a link to view and download your test results on our secure digital health platform once they’ve been analyzed by our labs and reviewed by a doctor.
Are imaware™ test results reviewed by a doctor?
Yes, all our test results are reviewed by a physician during the lab analysis process to ensure the third party validation of your results.
My state requires physician orders for tests like imaware™. Do you provide this for me?
Yes, we provide physician orders for every test in every state (even those that do not require them). You don’t need to get a prescription or pay extra for this service as it’s included in the purchase price of each test.
